Modernizing campus ERP
for 1,350+ institutions

Higher education institutions across the United States needed a unified cloud ERP platform that could handle the full spectrum of campus operations — from student onboarding and course registration to financial management, billing, and campus services. Each institution had unique workflows, but all needed a system that was reliable, secure, and easy for non-technical staff to use.

Jenzabar's existing platform, built on legacy Java Swing technology, needed modernization to a modern web-based architecture. The challenge was migrating to React.js while maintaining full backward compatibility for 1,350+ existing campuses — a migration that could not disrupt daily operations at any institution.

The platform also needed to support both on-premise and cloud deployments, with strict security requirements including role-based access controls, data encryption, and compliance with higher education regulatory standards.

DSi has been Jenzabar's enterprise development partner for over 15 years — one of the longest-running engagements in the company's history. Our team works as an integrated extension of Jenzabar's product organization, contributing to architecture decisions, feature development, and platform modernization.

The modernization effort migrated the frontend from Java Swing to React.js with TypeScript, using Ant Design and Bootstrap for consistent UI components, while preserving the battle-tested JBoss and Tomcat backend infrastructure. Data is managed across MSSQL, MySQL, and Oracle databases with Redis caching for performance.

DSi also built a headless eCommerce module for campus bookstores and services, real-time reporting dashboards, and comprehensive security controls — all deployed on AWS with Docker containerization for flexible cloud or on-premise deployment.
